Welcome to NorMet
As a hospital association, we are honored to represent the interests and viewpoints of our member hospitals and support them in their mission of providing excellent and compassionate patient care. Our 30 member hospitals and numerous associate members are located in the seven county Hudson Valley region just north of New York City.
Our members are as diverse as the communities they serve, representing specialty hospitals, community hospitals and trauma centers; small critical access hospitals a large teaching institution; and urban, suburban and rural hospitals.
NorMet is a collective voice for these hospitals. We advocate at the state & federal level on behalf of our members regarding issues common to all healthcare institutions as well as those unique to the Hudson Valley.
Our efforts are directed toward three main focus areas:
- Quality of Care
- Advocacy
- Emergency Preparedness
We hope you enjoy visiting our website and learning more about NorMet and our members.
A Word from Our President

Hospitals that comprise the Northern Metropolitan Hospital Association (NorMet) work 24/7/365 to provide the best and most appropriate health care to all in need. This requires physicians, nurses, hospital administrators and all the staff to be diligent in the keeping up to date with the latest advances in clinical care, quality assurance, patient safety, hospital environmental maintenance, and leadership.
In the past two years there have been seven rounds of cuts to Medicaid payment rates – tax payer supported healthcare for the very poor – making hospital treatment of these vulnerable people even more costly, reimbursing hospitals as little as 68 cents for every dollar spent. This Summer, the US Department of Health and Human Services released cuts to Medicare – tax payer supported healthcare for our communities’ seniors and disabled, that compound the severity of payment cuts resulting from healthcare reform that passed in the Spring of 2010. Then, despite New Yorkers paying some of the highest health insurance premiums in the nation, hospitals in the suburban areas of New York State struggle to be paid fairly by commercial health insurance companies. Despite these financial struggles, member hospitals continue to provide excellent care with compassion for the people of the Hudson Valley, while often serving as the largest employers in their communities, contributing to healthcare as one of the few economic sectors that the US Department of Labor predicts will be a reliable job source for the future.
Our hospital association is proud to represent our 28 member hospitals to provide safe, high quality, patient care that is efficient and compassionate. We hope you find this website helpful in understanding more about the hospitals serving people in suburbs north of New York City and throughout the beautiful Hudson Valley.
Wishing you good health and prosperity,
Kevin W. Dahill
President & CEO
